Newsletter featured "Frequently Asked Question"
There is a search engine optimization (SEO) company that claims they can get my site, through natural search, (not pay per click) to the top of all search engines. What do you think about this? Is it a good use of my money?
Answer: Be careful! The end result could be the opposite of what you are trying to achieve. In February Google removed a large SEO company, called Traffic-Power and the domains promoted by them from their index. Companies who hired Traffic-Power to perform search engine optimization for their site had their sites REMOVED from the index! This means that their sites disappeared from Google. Once a site is removed, it is challenging and perhaps impossible to get back in the index.
Be aware that some SEO companies use illicit practices to optimize websites and employ
techniques that are considered spamming the search engines. For example, stuffing pages full of keywords or artificially make the site seem "popular" by linking to themselves with other sites that they own or are within their network.
The major search engines like Google have algorithms that are getting smarter all the time. Sooner or later they will detect illicit optimization practices.
The bottom line is that it's your responsibility to make sure you or any SEO consultants you hire for website visibility on search engines are not employing illicit and unacceptable
techniques.
